Click here for more information>> How Touna Developed For many years the village of Touna was accessible only by foot trails, and many people from the other communities came there for farming, hunting and water recreation such as bathing, fishing, washing and river picnics as is still done today. In 1997 a motorable bridge and road was constructed. A visionary, and former Carib Chief Mr. Irvince Auguiste along with other residents, decided long ago that efforts should be made to maintain the community as authentic as possible. For these reasons the carib traditions will be preserved and practiced. It would also provide visitors with the opportunity to visit the way of life of the Carib people in a living form. This would provide benefits for all persons concerned in terms of education, preservation and economy. Today, the vision is being realized through the communities Non Government Organization called ‘Touna Heritage Development Agency' (TOHEDA). Tours are offered to the village for all kinds of groups.
